1. Why should I go to Hungary for dental services?
Hungary and Budapest are often referred to in the media as the "dental capital of Europe". The reasons for this are the high level of dentist training, the number of dentists per capita and the quality of care in general.
There has been a steady and ever increasing influx of patients into the country from Western Europe over the last 3 decades. Austrians, Germans and the Swiss were among the first to take advantage of the high level of care at affordable prices. Tens of thousands visit the country for dental treatment per annum. In recent years Britons have jumped on the bandwagon, too. According to the media, over 50,000 have chosen to travel abroad for dental and medical treatment.
Savings can indeed be up to 70% compared to some UK and Irish prices quoted and net savings even after travel costs can remain very significant. The onset of low cost flights this decade has made dental travel even more viable and very worthwhile for patients.
A word of caution, though. You must ensure that you choose the best quality clinics with the right experience. And this is where Savvy Health Ltd. can help you through our Savvy Dental service. We have researched the market, compared and visited many clinics and selected the ones, that we believe, offer the best quality and service at the most competitive prices. And best of all we pass all the savings onto you, so it doesn't cost you a penny more. We even offer a price guarantee for you.
2. How much can I potentially save on my dental treatment in Hungary?
Price levels in Hungary compare very favourably to UK and Irish prices. The actual saving depends entirely on the treatment you receive. Typically you can expect savings of up to 40-70% compared to prices in the UK and Ireland. This is on a like for like basis assuming the same level of care.
We have researched the market, compared and visited many clinics and selected the ones, that we believe, offer the best quality and service at the most competitive prices. By selecting Savvy Dental you can tap into these savings without compromising on quality. And it doesn't cost you a penny more as we pass onto you all the savings. We also offer a price guarantee for you.
We can even help you save on travel. We have put on the web site a mini search engine helping you find the best air fares and we have negotiated exclusive deals on some of the best accommodation in Budapest.
3. If I can save that much is it the same quality of treatment?
The clinics we work with offer you the best in terms of materials, dental equipment and quality of care. The implants and most other materials and equipment used are by the same internationally recognised and respected manufacturers that you would find in the best clinics anywhere in the world. The dentists are highly experienced and able to handle complex cases. They regularly attend international conferences and training courses, constantly seeking ways to improve their skills and expertise.
They work to very high standards comparable to what you can expect from private clinics in the UK and Ireland. They conform to international standards such as ISO and TUV and are regularly audited.
The main reasons why they can offer you such attractive prices are the lower level of overhead costs (including much lower wages and labour costs), the lower profit margins compared to the UK and Ireland and also the extreme level of competition in a country with more dentists per capita than elsewhere in Europe.
4. What are the standards of treatment like?
Treatment is provided at very high standards comparable with what you'd expect from private clinics in the UK and Ireland. The clinics use the same quality materials and equipment made by the same internationally recognised manufacturers that you would find in the best clinics anywhere in the world. The dentists are highly experienced and able to handle complex cases. They work to international quality standards such as ISO and TUV and are regularly audited. Safety is of utmost importance to the clinics. They adhere to extreme hygiene standards, even the air is constantly filtered for bacteria, viruses and medical pollen. It is precisely for these reasons we select the clinics we work with.
5. Do the clinics specialise in certain treatments?
The clinics mainly focus on dental implants, complete smile makeovers, cosmetic treatments and restorative dentistry but they are able to perform most other dental treatments you may require. See details of the services available at the Dental Services page.
The clinic is a centre of excellence for implant treatment and other cosmetic and restorative procedures. Their expertise has been recognised by the Department of Implantology of Wilhelm University (Münster, Germany) who appointed them as their training centre.
6. Where can I learn more about implants and other treatments?
Please take a look at our dental services page where you can read more about how the implant and other dental procedures work. We have posted some answers to common questions there as well, so hopefully you can find what you are looking for.

7. Am I the only one considering going abroad for dental treatment?
Definitely not. You are in fact in good (and ever increasing) company. According to the media, over 50,000 Britons have chosen to travel abroad for dental treatment last year.
With regard to Hungary there has been a steady and ever increasing influx of dental patients from Western Europe into the country over the last 3 decades. Austrians, Germans and the Swiss were among the first to take advantage of the high level of care at affordable prices. Tens of thousands visit the country for dental treatment per annum. In recent years Britons have jumped on the bandwagon, too. And the numbers keep increasing every year.
The Clinic is one of the leading implantology clinics in Hungary, treating thousands of patients arriving from the UK, Ireland, US, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and other countries.
8. Will I be able to meet the dentists prior to my visit to the Clinic in Hungary?
Yes. Dentists from the clinic have UK consultations on a regular basis giving you the opportunity to meet them before you commit to any treatment. Consultations are currently held in central London but we plan to offer consultations in other cities as well in the future (including the North of England and Ireland). You can of course choose to attend consultations in Hungary. Consultations are free in Hungary and are fully refundable in the UK if you book and commence your treatment within a certain time period following your consultation (see details here).
Following the consultation you are given a free no obligation treatment plan which gives you treatment options including treatment in the UK in certain cases. Please click here to book a consultation.
9. Where do you conduct consultations?
Dentists from the clinic currently hold consultations in central London but we plan to offer consultations in other cities as well in the future (including the North of England and Ireland). Following the consultation you are given a free no obligation treatment plan which gives you treatment options including treatment in the UK in certain cases. Please click here to book a consultation.
10. Am I committed to the treatment if I attend a consultation?
No. Consultations are designed to give you an opportunity to meet the dentist and describe your problem or requirements. The dentist can then examine you and put together a free, no obligation treatment plan. They are usually sent to you after the consultation and you only commit to any form of treatment by formally accepting the treatment plan.
Consultations are free in Hungary and are fully refundable in the UK if you book and commence your treatment within a certain time period following your consultation (see details here).
11. Can you not carry out the same treatment in the UK?
Dentists from the clinic can carry out certain treatments in the UK. They are able to give you further details about this at the consultation depending on your individual treatment requirements. Any treatment in the UK carries some extra charges (see more details on the Prices page).
Most patients find that treatment in Hungary is more cost effective even after taking into account travel costs.
12. Are treatment plans free of charge?
Yes. Treatment plans are no obligation and free of charge. They are usually sent to you after the consultation and you only commit to any form of treatment by formally accepting the treatment plan.
Consultations are free in Hungary and are fully refundable in the UK if you book and commence your treatment within a certain time period following your consultation (see details here).
13. Do you need an X Ray or a CT scan before you can prepare a treatment plan?
It depends on your treatment requirements but in most cases yes. If so, the dentists require a recent panoramic X Ray or CT scan (taken less than 3 months earlier) before they can prepare a treatment plan. If you have one, you can submit it on line with your booking form or alternatively bring it along to the consultation. If you don't have one, the dentist can arrange taking a panoramic X Ray at the consultation. Please note this incurs a £25 cost contribution charge in the UK (and free in Hungary).
14. What if I don't have an X Ray or a CT scan? Can you arrange one for me?
Yes. If your treatment requirements dictate, our dentists will require a recent panoramic X Ray or CT scan (taken less than 3 months earlier) before they can prepare a treatment plan. If you don't have one, the dentist can arrange taking a panoramic X Ray at the consultation. Please note this incurs a £25 cost contribution charge in the UK (and free in Hungary).
15. Will I get more information before I make any decision?
Yes. All patients are required to attend a consultation session where the dentist can give you a lot of information and answer your questions. Following the consultation a free no-obligation treatment plan is prepared and presented to you. Once you have received the plan you can ask further questions before you make a decision. Any treatment will only take place once you are satisfied that all your questions have been answered and you have formally accepted the treatment plan. Only then are we ready to book treatment dates for you.
16. How long do I have to stay in Hungary for my treatment?
This really depends on the treatment you receive. The dentists can give you more information about it at the consultation. Alternatively if you send us a panoramic X Ray in advance then a more accurate estimate may be possible at the consultation. The treatment plan will also give you more detail.
However to give you a rough idea:
-
if you require veneers, crowns or bridges, it can take from 5-12 working days depending on the number of tooth units required (or alternatively 2 or 3 visits of 2 days each in the case of a high number of teeth).
-
if you need dental implants, 2 or 3 visits are required. The first is typically 4-5 days if you require a temporary replacement during your healing time or only an overnight stay if you don't. The healing time is typically 4 months but can be shorter or longer depending on a number of factors. At the end of the healing time patients need a short appointment in London (or Budapest if you prefer) for placing the healing caps. Finally 2 weeks after this you are ready to receive the final crowns, bridges or over-dentures (see time frames above)
Some treatments can also be carried out in the UK and obviously then you will have London appointments and no stay is required. About this and other treatments, please contact us and our dentists can give you more details based on your treatment requirements.
17. How many times do I have to visit the clinic?
This depends on the treatment you receive. The dentists can give you more information about it at the consultation. Alternatively if you send us a panoramic X Ray in advance then a more accurate estimate may be possible at the consultation. The treatment plan will also give you more detail. The clinic's objective is to deal with each case in the most efficient manner sparing you any unnecessary visits. Obviously certain cases can be dealt with on your first visit.

if you require veneers, crowns or bridges, it can take from 5-12 working days depending on the number of tooth units required (or alternatively 2 or 3 visits of 2 days each in the case of a high number of teeth).

18. Who pays for the travel costs?
Any treatment cost quoted excludes travel and accommodation. Travel and accommodation costs are always your responsibility regardless whether the purpose of travel is the initial treatment, any follow up treatment, aftercare, check-ups or any work under the terms of the guarantee.
Please note however that periodically there may be offers advertised in the latest offers section and our Travel page can help you save on flights and accommodation. Please feel free to contact us for further assistance if you can't find what you are looking for.
19. Can somebody come along with me to the Clinic in Hungary?
Yes, of course. If you wish you can attend the Clinic with your partner, other family members, friends etc. We can help arrange accommodation and travel on your request. Just let us know in advance.
Please note however that the free transfers are meant for the patient receving treatment only. We are happy to fit in a person accompanying you (subject to availability) as long as you travel together and give the clinic advance notice.
20. What are the hygiene standards like in the Clinic?
The clinic uses world class sterilization technology and techniques. The air conditioning system uses bacteria, virus and medical pollen filters. The clinic conforms to stringent international quality standards. The clinic's spotless environment is complimented by a lot of the patients.
21. Do staff at the Clinic speak English?
Yes. Most team members (from the receptionist to the implantologists) speak fluent English (and a number of them also speak German). So you shouldn't encounter any communication problems.
22. I am interested. Where do I start? What are the next steps?
23. Will it cost more to use Savvy Dental than approaching a dentist directly?
No. Our job is to secure the best overall deal for you. We have researched the market and physically visited many clinics in Hungary saving you the serious headache of clinic selection in a foreign country. We have picked the ones, that we believe, offer the best quality and service at the most competitive prices.
By selecting Savvy Dental service offered by Savvy Health Ltd. you can tap into these savings without compromising on quality. And it doesn't cost you a penny more than going direct to a clinic, as we pass onto you all the savings. We also offer a price guarantee for you.
To maximise your savings please have a look at the deals on accommodation and flights on our Travel page.
24. How do I pay for my treatment?
In Hungary: the clinics accept payment in Pounds, Euros, Hungarian Forints and the following credit cards: Mastercard, Maestro and Visa.
In the UK: unfortunately due to technical reasons the clinics can only accept payment in cash at the moment. The currencies accepted are Pounds, Euros or Hungarian Forints.
Payment is normally made directly to the clinics. See details of the terms of payment here.
Please note there are no extra charges for card payment and there are extra discounts available in Hungary only if you pay for your treatment in cash.
Consultations are free in Hungary but incur a £45 charge in the UK. The latter is fully refundable if you book and commence your treatment within a certain time period. See details here.
For further details on our prices, discounts and payment terms please have a look at our Prices page.
25. Do you accept credit cards and cheques?
Due to technical reasons credit card payments are unfortunately only accepted in Hungary. The clinic accepts the following major credit cards: Mastercard, Maestro and Visa. Please note there is no extra charge for card payments. We regret the clinic can only accept cash payments in the UK at the moment.
If you intend to pay a larger amount by card, you may need to inform your bank in advance about the amount and the fact that the transaction will take place abroad. If you intend to use your debit card at ATMs abroad please note that most banks impose a daily withdrawal limit. So it may be necessary to withdraw the amount in stages or to go to a branch to withdraw the full amount before your departure for treatment.
Unfortunately the clinic is not in a position to accept payments by cheque.
See further details about the terms of payment here.
26. Why does dental treatment cost less in Hungary?
The main reasons why our clinics can offer you such attractive prices are the lower level of overhead costs (including much lower wages and labour costs), the lower profit margins compared to the UK and Ireland and the extreme level of competition in a country with more dentists per capita than elsewhere in Europe.
But rest assured there is no compromise on the quality of materials and equipment used or the level of service you receive. This is the main criteria for our selection of the clinics we work with.
27. Do Hungarian dentists use the same materials and techniques?
Yes.
28. Do you provide a guarantee?
Yes. Peace of mind is very important to all of us and to this effect the clinic takes full responsibility for the quality of the dental work carried out and the materials used. The clinic directly issues you with a written guarantee upon completion of your treatment.
To give you an idea how the guarantee works: in the unlikely event of an implant failure our dentist will place another implant at no additional cost to you. In the case of a failure of the laboratory work, our clinics and labs will rectify the problem. In case of small adjustments and repairs, a dentist will see you in the UK surgery. In the unlikely case you required more extensive work, the clinic will carry out the remedial work in Hungary.

The clinic also directly issues you with a written guarantee upon completion of your treatment. The guarantee provided is dependent on the treatment received.

Yes, it is generally safe but as in any European city you are advised to take the precautions that you would normally follow elsewhere. If in doubt, please contact us and we'll do our best to answer your specific questions. You can read more about Budapest here.
49.What are the people like in Hungary?
Hungarian people are generally friendly and approachable. A lot of tourist guides mention their famous hospitality. Many of them, especially the younger generation and the staff of hotels and tourist attractions speak reasonable English. So you shouldn't find it too difficult to get by.
Read more about the country on our Travel page.
50. Can I buy the same kind of food and drinks that I am used to in the UK?
Yes. In supermarkets you can find most of the products that you are used to in the UK. There is even a wide variety of teas. Some of your usual products may be sold under a different brand name though. Like it or not, there are even Tesco stores in the country (Hungary was one of the first countries in their foreign expansion back in the 80ies).
However don't return home without trying the famous (and quite delicious) Hungarian dishes and sampling some of the unique Hungarian drinks.

51. Is the water safe to drink in Hungary?
Yes. Tap water is absolutely safe to drink in hotels, apartments, restaurants, cafes, indeed pretty much anywhere unless it is signposted otherwise.
52. What can I eat and drink after my treatment?
This really depends on your specific treatment and the stage you are at in the course of your treatment. Your dentist and the clinic will always give you clear guidance on this. If in doubt, please don't hesitate to ask.
53. How do I get around in Budapest?
Budapest has a great network of public transport that is effective and inexpensive compared to other European cities including London. There are buses, electric powered trolley buses, trams, municipal railway, cog railway and the underground to choose from. You can even take a boat ride on the Danube.
There are also lots of taxis on the streets. You could simply hail a cab but calling one is considered safer and definitely more cost effective. You can read more about Budapest here.
And don't forget that your transfers to and from the airport and between the clinic and your accommodation are taken care of by the clinic during your stay for treatment (see further details about this here).
54. Can I visit other parts of Hungary?
You certainly can, as long as you make sure to attend the clinic at the pre-agreed treatment and consultation times and you avoid any activities that are not advised by the dentist.
And Hungary has a lot of sights and places to entice you. Whether it is the beauty of nature; historic sites; cultural attractions; culinary delights; or activity programmes you are after, you can be almost certain to find something you'll like. Please read more on our Travel page.
55. Can I pay for goods and services in Pounds and Euros in Hungary?
Payment in Pounds and Euros is only accepted in hotels and the clinic itself. Other establishments will normally require payment in the local currency, Hungarian Forints (HUF or Ft). However card payment is accepted quite widely and there are a lot of shops and banks where you can exchange your currency for Hungarian Forints. There are also ATMs where you can draw Forints.
56. Are credit cards widely accepted in Hungary?
Yes, major credit and debit cards such as Mastercard, Maestro, Visa are fairly widely accepted in the country. However the number of places accepting American Express, Diners Club, JCB and other cards is more limited.
Please note that some retailers may ask for a photo ID (i.e. your passport or driving licence) when certain transaction limits are exceeded. Don't be alarmed by this as this is a standard security procedure which dates back to pre-Chip-and-PIN times (the latter has not been fully rolled out in the country, yet).
Your card is normally debited in local currency and then your bank applies their Pound (or Euro) exchange rate when converting it. The retailer or the clinic has no control whatsoever over the exchange rate and indeed any additional charge applied by your bank.
Our clinic accepts credit cards and doesn't charge extra for card payments. See our payment terms here.
57. Are there ATMs if I need cash in Hungary?
Yes. There are lots of ATMs you can use to withdraw local currency. At the airport (and in some banks) there are cash machines dispensing Euros as well (but not Pounds).
Please be aware that most bank will impose a daily cash withdrawal limit for ATMs. So if you were to pay for your treatment in cash, it may be necessary to witdraw cash in advance in stages or alternatively go to a branch to withdraw the full amount before your departure for treatment. See more details about our cash discounts and payment terms here.
